Alternative Tentacles Records and Crispin Glover Records is proud to present Punch, a new split 7-inch from Patrik Fitzgerald and Motorpsycho featuring Jello Biafra both performing Fitzgerald’s classic song, “Punch.” Patrik Fitzgerald is an English singer-songwriter, known for being one of the originators of the Folk Punk movement. Ranked as one of the most memorable of the so-called “punk poets” he first debuted in 1977 and has become known for his unique combination of punk outrage with a streak of optimism. Originally writing the song “Punch” in 1980, shortly after Margaret Thatcher had been elected Prime Minister of Great Britain, Fitzgerald had this to say about the song; “At the time that the song was written, it seemed like the worst type of person to be in charge of a country would be a right wing monster like Margaret Thatcher or a dangerous ex-actor / reactionary like Ronald Reagan, a bit of a joke figure, but also a gun-toting and gun promoting right wing monster. Nobody might have expected that, by the early 2020s, the world would end up in the hands of actual clowns like Donald Trump and Boris Johnson, people written off by their own public as comedy buffoons, people to laugh at but not take too seriously.”

In January 1983, Minor Threat went into Inner Ear Studio for the first time as a five-piece (Brian Baker had moved from bass to second guitar and Steve Hansgen was now playing bass). They had six new songs that would end up being the center piece of what became the Out of Step 12" EP. The band had also decided to re-record the song "Out of Step" with some extra language to try to clarify the lyrics, as well as "Cashing In", a tongue-in-cheek song about the DC punk scene which they had only played live once. After much debate, "Cashing In" was added as a hidden track on the original vinyl release though not listed on the cover or label. There was still blank tape on the reel, so they decided to record an instrumental with the working title, "Addams Family" and then recorded new versions of "In My Eyes" and "Filler" to hear what they sounded like with two guitars. "Addams Family" ended up being used as a coda to "Cashing In", but the other two songs were never mixed and largely forgotten for over 35 years until the multitrack tapes were taken into the studio to be digitized in 2021. Surprised by the discovery, Ian and Don Zientara mixed the two songs along with the complete take of "Addams Family". These outtakes are now being released on a 7" to mark the 40th anniversary of the release of Out of Step.

In 1990, Judge had a new song entitled “Forget This Time” and there was a desire to record it and get it out into the wild. Additionally, the band had been touring and made some improvements to some of their existing songs; one standout was “The Storm,” which now had a breakdown in the middle that didn’t exist in the previous versions. Mike was excited about covering “When The Levee Breaks” (which was a bonus track on the Cdep, now a streaming bonus track) and the idea of his local buddy Todd Schwartz doing the harmonica solo. With these three songs the guys headed to Don Fury’s studio on Spring Street to record what became “The Storm” EP. One day Mike showed up on his Harley and the idea came about to run a microphone cable out into the street to record it rev, which you can hear on this version of “The Storm.”

Japan's hardcore punk pioneers G.I.S.M. were a band whose influence reached the remotest corners of underground music the world over, shaping the look, sound, and approach of generations of punk, hardcore, metal, and other extreme music acts for the last 40 years. Chief among their early Western champions was America’s own hardcore punk trailblazers, Poison Idea. If the metal/punk sound of Poison Idea's mid-to-late era recordings wasn’t evidence enough of this influence, look no further than the G.I.S.M. logo proudly adorning Jerry A’s leather vest on the back of 1987's War All The Time. Upon learning of G.I.S.M.’s visionary frontman and creative architect Sakevi YOKOYAMA's death on August 24th, 2023, Poison Idea and TKO felt compelled to honor the monumental legacy left in the wake of this loss, and we are now proud to present the result with Poison Idea's Tribute To G.I.S.M. 7” EP. Collecting both G.I.S.M. covers from P.I.'s 1993 We Must Burn sessions for the first time ever, every facet of this EP is a carefully crafted ode to the inimitable and uncompromising spirit of Sakevi and G.I.S.M. “Endless Blockades For The Pussyfooter” appears as a previously unreleased mix that differs from the version featured on We Must Burn, while “Death, Agonies & Screams” is the same version that appears on Poison Idea's posthumous Religion & Politics EP. Rounding out the track list is a newly composed noise piece by Jerry A and Andrew Stromstad, “Pig Scream”, paying tribute to the avant garde sound of G.I.S.M.’s later material. La Langue Bleue was written to be featured in AMC’s Monsieur Spade; a noir set in the 60s on the French countryside spinning off of Dashiell Hammett’s iconic character Sam Spade, now played by Clive Owen. The song, with its surreal lyrics and cinematic tone, references the giants of French film music such as Jean-Claude Vannier, Francois de Roubaix and Michel Legrand.

"Stoppt den Krieg (Schlagt die Schweine tot?)" is an anti-war song as an "Apocalypse Now" revenant. Kamerun describes the Belizean connoisseur vocabulary of our time (turn of the century) in the guise of those murderous predatory cats from maggot to leopard to puma.

This track wants a different language than that of the warriors and their dashing battle ministers. The music is manic-Prussian Sleaford Mods. In the chorus, Dutch singer Annemaaike Bakker transfigures herself as Zeus' daughter with a killer sample:

I don't talk to presidents anymore / Been diplomatic for so long Will end the palaver now / It's just too erratic for me Accept pacifism yes / Must really emphasize that again But it's fallen out of time / That's why the guns are speaking now. Because Schorsch Kamerun and his record company staatsakt want to continue to believe in the power of armor-free communication, this extra non-defensive protest rap is now available as a musical intervention.

For collectors of anti-war songs, it is also available as a limited vinyl single with an exclusive B-side for dangerous (but loving) salons: "Mitnahmeffekte".

Neutrals are a trio from the San Francisco Bay Area, owing as much to the direct, tightly-wound edge of Wire-schooled post-punk as the proto-C86 melancholic jangle of bands like the Television Personalities. The Rent/Your House EP was their second vinyl release, after their 2019 debut LP Kebab Disco on Emotional Response Records. Originally released in April 2020 as a benefit for Border Angels & Raices (keeping with the anti-fascist themes of the record & protesting US policies of caging immigrant children), this new 2023 repressing defends another vulnerable community currently under attack from fascism in the USA & elsewhere, serving as a benefit for the Transgender Law Center & Trans Lifeline. Phaendin (“Land”) was a coming-together of musicians from other prominent bands in the Thai phuea chiwit (“songs for life”) folk-song scene. Phaendin “Five Precepts” album was first made & recorded in 1994. In this 7” reissued, we have “Five Precepts ศีลห้า“ — an early 90s Thai funk-rock Pali Chant recorded in 1994 on side 1, and a handpicked blues rock track “Accident อุบัติเหตุ“ on side 2. Both reproduced and remastered first quarter of 2024.

Released just months after their debut album Dive, "Receiver" finds Lifeguard in a much different headspace. Colder and more direct than anything in their catalog, "Receiver" is the sound of the band fully coming into their own. KAI Slater and Asher CASE’s guitars call, respond, and spider web across the track, centered on Isaac LOWENSTEIN’s tasteful mid tempo beat. The splintered finale is the only time the song feels like it’s losing control, collapsing into its stuttered, feedback laced end. B side "Sun Ra Jane" oscillates between time signatures before opening up into a liminal zone that is truly the threshold of where Lifeguard have pushed their sound to date. A new sense of space and maturity saturates these songs, recorded and produced by the band at their Mixed Messages studio.
